2014 Season - Week 22
The GOAT
That’s the question being asked of Brady and Belichick after they won their fourth Superbowl having already won their sixth AFC Championship in the last 13 seasons. I’ll let you tell me who you think was better, reply to everyone as this could provoke some interesting debate. Seattle are getting a lot of flack for the play call on the interception (“dumbest call in Superbowl history” said Deion Sanders). I have no problem with throwing on second down, the entire Pats D would be expecting a Beast run but with hindsight maybe the pass play should have been a play action roll out so you freeze the D momentarily and give Wilson the chance to beat you two ways that he can, with his feet or his arm. If it’s not there he throws the ball out the back of the end zone and you’ve still got 15 seconds and a time out to have two more cracks at the end zone. Rather than slamming the Seahawks coaches let’s praise rookie Malcolm Butler for beating Ricardo Lockette to the ball and making a great play.
BUMSBowl XIX
The BUMSBowl was also a close affair though with 8:04 left and the Pats on the Seattle 4 yard line Brady missed wide on a pass to an open Edelman in the end zone. That would have put Stampy 36-27 ahead and in good shape. Instead, having missed Edelman, Brady hit Amendola on the next pass to bring the Pats to within three and more importantly put Ron ahead 33-30. However with just 2:02 left Brady hit Edelman for the go ahead score, not just for the Patriots but for Stampy as well and he won his second BUMSBowl ever.
Supergames & Superfood
It was a good evening for Marcus as he also scooped the most money in our games after sharing the first named scorer with Cheryl (Lynch) and being closest to the final score (predicting a Patriots 25-24 win). He made £5.50 while Cheryl profited by £4.33 when as well as Lynch she shared the best Superbowl team (36 points) with Mark and Chief and got the half-time score spot on (along with Mark) at 14 each. Aaron took the final win predicting 3 of the 4 quarter leaders correctly. Also a huge thanks to Cheryl as always for a Superbowl feast of burgers, hot dogs to fortify the seven BUMS present through to 3.30am. Her balanced diet included home made Boston Baked Beans and Starbucks Coffee with Mocha Cheesecake. Cheryl on behalf of all BUMS that have attended can I say a huge thank you for all the fine food you have prepared, and the same goes to Johnnie and H our other hosts this season.
